About The Bongo Room

Established July 5, 1993, the first The Bongo Room was located off Damen Avenue and now calls the Milwaukee Ave location home. Our original concept was simple and still remains the same: to serve fresh, seasonal Breakfast and Brunch food in a unique way. While the idea took some time to develop, within a year our customers’ feedback was fantastic. In fact, a few of the original items remain on the menu to this day – the Breakfast Burrito, Croissant Sandwich and Vegetarian Croissant Sandwich are as popular now as they were then. Our seasonally changing pancakes and french toast creations continue to draw in new customers, tourists, and die-hard fans alike to the point that we’ve expanded to 2 more Chicago-based locations: South Loop and Andersonville!

Derrick Robles

After some time at DePaul, Derrick was bit by the entrepreneurial bug and decided to pursue his dream of being a restaurateur. In his early twenties, The Bongo Room was opened with the partnership of his best friend, John Latino.

John Latino

John always dreamed of becoming a chef. A graduate of Kendall College here in Chicago, John met Derrick while working at The Pump Room (another Chicago classic) – they became business partners and the rest is history!
